disco and peacock

Every weekend I look forward to adoring my nails with one of my beloved polishes, and these days I've found myself edging towards glitter. The awful weather (wettest drought ever in England, just saying) has put everyone in a negative mood, ans has made me question wearing the summery colours that I've been looking forward to wearing. Models Own Peacock Green is one of my all time favourites, and thought it would look good with one of my newest and most favourite purchases, Rimmel's Disco Ball. Not enough good things can be said about this combo. It's love.

MUA purchases

lip booms in ok.com and cheeky
eye primer
bb cream in light
immaculate palette

A few recent MUA purchases! As soon as I saw these on many other blogs I was immediately drawn towards ok.com and cheeky, the two lightest shades of the range. For a while I've been wanting to buy the eye primer, but have been putting it off. I'm unsure why - from first impressions I'm really pleased with it - £2.50 well spent! I've also heard great things about MUA's bb cream, especially in comparison to other drugstore versions. Due to MUA reaching an astonishing 20,000 likes on their facebook page last week they offered a code - giving a free immaculate palette out with every purchase! Worth £8 for the palette alone, I bought all of these products (including delivery) for £15.

What are your thoughts on MUA - have you ever ordered from them online?

friendlyfashion.co.uk

Shopping. Like many of you I'm a self-confessed addict, with clothes being on my mind frightfully much. Wishlists, collages and thoughts are dedicated to these happy beings, so when I found out about a new way of shopping, my attention was instantly caught.

Friendlyfashion.co.uk promotes the idea of selling or swapping clothes you haven't worn for a while to a community who adores fashion as much as you do. The process is easy - take a photo of the item, then upload. An account isn't required with the ability to sign in via facebook...cool, right?

The process of actually buying an item on the website is surprisingly easy - no bidding waits or worries about dodgy delivery: the shipment and payment details are sorted personally by the two fashion-lovers involved. Together you can agree on reasonable rates that can satisfy the both of you.

As it's the real, normal people involved there aren't size restrictions like you may find on other websites - they are the sizes anyone sells, not the sizes a company chooses.

Although the shopping experience itself is independent, the side provides moderators that can help with any issues, such as fretting over prices etc. It's a safe environment that no shopper should want to miss out on!

17 lasting fix lipstick in shell

This lipstick has truly left me wondering.
The colour, when looked at in the bullet or swatched looks lovely - a very pale, almost iredescent pink, suitable for those with a pale skin tone like myself. When photographed, it looks good. But on my lips in real life it really leaves me unsure. In some lights it can be misinterpreted to be white, a shiny silver that's more gaga than wearable. Purchased in a 3 for 2 Boots deal on a whim, 'Shell' was my it's-practical-to-pick-a-third-item: I'd seen it before, swatched it, thought it was lovely but never got around to actually buying it. Now I have bought it, I think about whether I should have or not; I'm going to take the adventurous/try it out approach, hoping that it'll grow on me.

would have added a full-face shot but wasn't wearing makeup on the rest of my face - sorry!
Have you ever felt this way about a product before?

a nail polish obsession?

I'm Thalia, and I'm a nailpolishaholic.

The pleasure of purchasing a new one, applying the new purchase for the first time. Discovering colour and glitter combinations that work perfectly. Trying something new, then finding yourself contantly staring at your nails in adoration. I'm not ashamed to say, that I have a nail polish obsession.
Take into consideration that in the average week I can only wear it from Friday-Sunday night, as my school (like many others, unfortunately) disallow it, and keep many pots of remover for those who try to rebel.
I'm considering writing a review post on my favourites, would you like to read that? Also, are there any recommendations of your favourites? I adore trying new ones out.

models own coral lipstick

This lipstick = stepping into summer. Creamy in texture yet pigmented in colour, models own coral lipstick is quite wearable, despite it being so bright. It definitely requires confidence to wear it, and the you-are-wearing-bright-lipstick frame of mind, so taking caution with leaning on your face/drinking must be taken. Without a doubt it's the brightest lipstick in my collection, and sadly the one I've worn least. After recieving this in the £10 models own gift bag at the Clothes Show Live last year I've wanted to try it out, but have never had the ocassion (or correct weather.) So I've challenged myself to bite the bullet - during the summer I want to try this out more, as its formulation is too good to miss.

What lipstick is your favourite coral?

caramel cupcake

excuse the blue finger...the excitement of nail polish purchases took over so I swatched a colour per finger...minus a base coat. nice one, Thalia. I'll never learn..

I've found the perfect nude nail polish. Sleek, sophisticated, easy with application and long-lasting..what more can I ask from a nail polish costing under £4? Packaging is standard with the range of Rimmel polishes, 10ml of product in a small, shortened, cylinder glass pot. The brush is phenomenal, the polish is easily and quickly distributed, shortening the sometimes tedious nail-painting 'experience'. As for opacity it takes 2-3 coats to become fully opaque, which in my opinion isn't too bad considering the wonderful colour and the short amount of time each coat takes to dry. By applying base and top coats this polish stayed sturdy for a while (until I became bored and added some sparkle top coat). I'd definitely recommend this for anyone needed something smart and subtle, for work or school.

Have you found your perfect nude nail polish?

creeping into my mind.

Excuse the title, had to be done, eh?!

So- Creepers. They're everywhere right now, it's virtually impossible to not have heard of or seen a pair of them. Started as a trend within the more punky/rocky styles a while back, these shoes have levelled themselves with a larger community, and are now seen everywhere!
The signature chunky heel and appearance make this style of shoes very hit and miss, although in the past few weeks they've been growing on me, 'creeping into my mind'. After watching a youtube video this morning (after stupidly overestimating the amount of time it would take me to get ready for school, leaving half an hour to kill) I've been converted. Chockers Shoes sell a range of the creeper style shoes, except a  third of the price and with a more wearable heel thickness. Available in a range of materials and colours, every style is offered a shoe finish within this brand. I'm so tempted to buy these, a feminine approach to the trend, which personally I feel is more wearable and versatile. At £22 they are bargainous, especially in compariosn to the £80something price tag to the real deal.

available here, if you search 'flatforms' into the search box they'll pop up!

So what do you think - are Creepers a trend worth approaching? Are you into the real deal or do you seek cheaper alternatives like myself?

weekly wishlist #2

Yes, yes, I know. My last 'weekly wishlist' was posted over a month ago, but recently I haven't wanted that much. Usually I'll find 1928374 things worthy of any money, yet no money to buy them with. Teenage troubles, eh. Anyway - the things I've had my eye on..
a la mode t-shirt, new look
tie dye t-shirt, new look
the perks of being a wallflower, amazon
navy boat shoes, topshop
balearic cool nail polish, models own
grey denim shorts, miss selfridge

Saw the la mode t-shirt in the new-in section of New Look's teen range and instantly loved it. So cute, chic, summery and affordable at £10. The tie-dye t-shirt was spotted on a youtube haul, showing it to be more purple/plummy colour in real life. I'm liking the tie-dye trend more and more recently, and want to start exploring it with basic, subtle colours.
I'm not one to be really into books, despite wanting to be a form of writer when I'm older. I heard about this through jamjars' tumblr (who I love, and met last week at a gathering), he quoted it to be 'beautiful'. At £5 on amazon I want to try something out, and read a book that has got be encaptured ever since reading the blurb.
Tophop's navy boat shoes are simply gorgeous. Summery and stylish yet practical equals a comfortable summer outfit, and I would enjoy wearing these beauties. At £22 they aren;t priced as (ridiculously) expensive as many other pairs of Topshop shoes.
The hedkandi Models Own range has managed to take the bloggersphere by storm, with many showing NOTD's of Hedonist and Ibiza Mix. Personally I find the range lovely, yet way too out there for me! I hope to go out-there soon and purchase a summery blue colour beautifully displayed in Balearic Cool.
I wrote a few posts ago about the Topshop denim bleach shorts that I recently bought, and have fallen head over heels in love with. They are so comfortable and stylish and are sure to be worn constantly throughout the summer months. Whilst on my usual online wonderings I found this pair, almost identical to mine in grey. My wardrobe consists mainly of darker, and more plain colours, so I think these shorts could dress up a summer outfit of my extravagancy.

What have you had your eye on?

peaches and glisten

Two of my newest nail polish purchases - Barry M's Peach Melba and 17's Glisten (that's a total of ten this week, think that's a hint to hold back for a bit?!) Peach Melba had been on my mental wishlist for a good few months now, and considering it only cost £3 I'm unsure of why I hadn't 'taken the plunge' earlier. As in the name it's a beautiful peachy colour, very summery and would look gorgeous with a tan. Glisten is one of 17's newest polishes, and instantly after catching a glimpse of this I bought it. It reminds me of a pretty blush, almost a lighter, pinker version of Sleek's Rose Gold. Layered these look beautiful, with Peach Melba delivering an opaque base, perfect in tone to match Glisten. Definitely a combination to be rocking out this summer!

Will you be wearing these polishes this summer?!

I don't speak German but I can if you like

Today was an exciting day. Contrasting with yesterday, I got lots of schoolwork and revision done, which in a way eased the increasing stress and burden of 'exams in three weeks' terror. On my strategic 15-minute breaks I found myself trudging on twitter, the usual stuff. I noticed that o2 were offering priority ticket purchasing for Lady Gaga's upcoming tour, two days before public release this Friday. Curiously, I went onto the link and beamed. Running down to find my Mum, I convinced her that we both really like Lady G, and that she'd put on a great show etc. 15 minutes later our tickets were booked! Bring on September 8th in Twickenham!

So to celebrate I spent a while on google images and weheartit, searching for images for my style/music/celeb icon and here are a few of my favourites. I love how Gaga is the most unique, unorthodox and risky celebrity with style, yet is still so respected. She not only influences me greatly but millions of others worlwide, and for that I have ridiculous amounts of respect for her.

So what are your thoughts on Lady Gaga?!

it's never looking up, never working out

Sweater - Primark
Shorts - Topshop
Tights - Primark

 Hello!

So today most probably has gone down into the records of "most unproductive day Thalia has ever lived", as everything I need to do, hasn't been done. I've organised my lip product storage, studded a corset panel and made my bed..and that is all. Never mind exam revision or bedroom tidying, my procrastination at heart will flip out later in the week as laziness turns to stress.

Not much of a fancy outfit today, with my inspiration being 'if I stay in my pyjamas all day I'll do nothing', yet unfortunately my clothing didn't help motivate me in the slightest.

In more excited terms, I managed to capture almost-accurate photos of the lovely Fanatsy Fire by Max Factor. I spoke briefly of this yesterday, so I shan't bore you with details but it really is as lovely as people rave it to be.

I hope your day was more productive than mine! I'm off to Eastbourne tomorrow with my mum and brother so hopefully some photos should be up when I come back on Thursday!

collared

Was hoping to do a post on the Easter youtube gathering that I attended on Saturday, but none of the photos are uploading. I ordered this shirt, as mentioned in my ARK post and loved the collar. To my disappointment, it was too large for me despite it being in the smallest size, drowning me in size. The fabric wasn't as 'chambray' as it looks on the website which in a way is another negative.

So from now on I'm on the hunt for an item of clothing (preferably a blouse) with a collar similar to this one, like a structured, slightly harsher peter pan collar. Oh, and a few chambray pieces are on my mental to-buy list, I love them!

So Today I went to Stratford Westfields with my lovely Mum as I hadn't yet been there (despite it opening seven months ago...) and bought a few things. Nailpolishes (brings my holiday nail polish purchases to a shameful total of ten), a tie-dye vest top, new pressed powder (mua shade 1: loved the shade 3 I received for my birthday but I was sadly too pale for it) and a new facial scrub, exciting. A few months ago when I had just started my blog I posted about my skincare routine, which since then has kind of spiralled downhill and not made much progress whatsoever. Recently I've found myself on a skincare hype after trying out a sample of Elemis' freshskin exfoliating scrub, which was amazing! I googled the product of wonder and came to the conclusion that no matter how lovely it was, £12 for 100ml of product was just (way) too steep for my price range. So I settled with Neutrogena's visibly clear pink grapefruit daily scrub, costing me £3.09 for 150ml. I'm looking forward to using this after seeing positive reviews; more than anything I want to improve my skin.

Sticking with the whole beauty-hype happiness theme, today I did buy the highly coveted Fantasy Fire nailpolish from Max Factor. By now, everyone has seen this everywhere and it really has not disappointed me. I do admit to applying it over Barry M's Bright Purple almost immediately after I got home today, giving wonderful results. The brush, considering the small size of the polish is lovely and easy to use..and the colour itself really is as gorgeous as everyone says. Please, just..if you haven't bought it already, buy it. You won't regret it!

no more charades, my heart's been displayed

A quick post for today - just showing you my newest favourite nail polish combination.
I purchased Rimmel's Caramel Cupcake and Disco Ball a few days ago, and posted about them recently. They both apply so well, and can be made versatile by adding layers of glitter, doing am accent nail or using the glitter to do French tips. This was done with only a thin layer of Disco Ball layered on 2 coats of Caramel Cupcake.

What's your favaourite nail polish combination?

topshop - a source of inspiration

Topshop's free magazine, Spring/Summer 2012.
Eva Chen: one of the people that inspire me, that I look up to greatly.
Magazines, for me, always have and always be a huge inspiration towards my love for fashion. High Street fashion in particular strook me at a young age, teaching me that riches didn't have to be the main contributor towards style. Monthly I read Company and Glamour magazines, looking at Elle, Teen Vogue and Marie Claire every two months or so. Many consider Vogue to be 'the bible' of fashion, to which I can't disagree, though personally I choose not to read it. The fashion and quality of writing inside it is outstanding, though marketed towards those more interested in high-fashion, and ultimately, those with the money to purchase the designs.

Many high street stores such as Topshop and H&M offer free, seasonal magazines on offer to those who shop in their stores, and I find these in particular a significant source of inspiration. I could spend years devouring over the images of beautiful clothes, styles and cosmetics they'll be releasing in the upcoming weeks.

Here I have a collection of my favourite images from the magazine, those which stood out to me more than others.

Where do you find your main sources of inspiration?

blue eyed girl

Rimmel 60 seconds nail polish in 840 Blue Eyed Girl, modelled with a blue eyed girl...had to be done.

Comparison to similar nail polishes-
L-R: OPI Ski Teal We Drop, Barry M 291 Cobalt Blue, Rimmel 840 Blue Eyed Girl.
Swatches, L-R: Rimmel, Barry M, OPI.

I featured this in a haul post a couple of days ago, and tried it on almost immediately after I bought it. It's a gorgeous, creamy blue colour, perfect for the upcoming spring and summer months. Application is easy and wonderful with the brush, out of all the polishes I own this brand wins brush-wise hands down. The colour is opaque and so far shows absolutely no signs of chipping! The bottle claims to ensure 5x stronger nails, and I'm not sure if its by five times but my nails have felt considerably stronger, and show less signs of breaking or snapping.

Blue Eyed Girl retails for £3.69, but is found along 3 for 2 deals Superdrug and Boots are currently hosting. I'd definitely recommend you pick it up if you're unusre about it!

petite bleach denim shorts

These babies are officially mine! So excited at this purchase. Went to Oxford St with Rosie today, dying to go into Topshop to buy a lip stick in coy/powder room. After swatching them i was disappointed, although beautiful and pigmented the colours were more vibrant in person, and not colours I would dare to wear. Moving downstairs to the petite section (the main reason why I love Topshop) I found these. Gorgeous, bleached denim hotpants with intentional signs of wear...ticks every box. At £28 they're the most I've ever spent on an item of clothing, but I'm very happy with them!

They are as short in person as they appear on the website, though that's nothing a pair of tights underneath can't sort. I think they're so versatile and stylish, and I'm looking forward to wearing these loads!

Have you tried out Topshop's denim shorts before? What did you think of them?
